Our Staff

Lead Pastor – Rev. Marcus Harrison

Marcus accepted the call to ministry at an early age and preached his very first sermon at 16 years old.  He became a part of the pastoral staff in the year 2000, serving as the church’s full time Minister of Music.  After completing his ordination with the Church of God, he started serving as the church’s associate pastor in 2012 and was elected as lead pastor in July of 2014.  In addition to his ordination in the COG, he also has a Doctorate of Ministry in Christian Counseling from Jacksonville Theological Seminary.  He was married to Alicia Harrison in 2005 and they were blessed with their very first child, Zoe Noelle, in December of 2011.

Interesting facts – Marcus has attended the church his entire life and was even dedicated back to the Lord as a baby in our current Sanctuary.  He loves Mexican and Chinese food and loves to vacation in the Caribbean (especially on a cruise ship).

Associate Pastor/Women’s Ministry President - Rev. Joni Shelor

Joni has been a member of the Fairlawn Church of God for more than 18 years.   She has been married to her wonderful husband, Jack, for over 36 years and is blessed with 3 children and 6 grandchildren.   Her passion is to preach and teach God’s Word; therefore leading her to complete the COG MIP program with the end result of receiving her license as an Ordained Minister for the Church of God.  Joni has coordinated many Church functions as President of the Ladies Ministry for nearly 12 years, active in the annual Easter Drama and an active part of many other ministries.  Joni was appointed as Associate Pastor in 2014.

Interesting Facts – Her new favorite movie is “God’s Not Dead” and her favorite past time is reading. She also loves spending time in the mountains, during the fall, with “Poppie Jack.”

Youth Pastor - Alicia Harrison

Alicia has attended the Fairlawn Church of God from a very young age.  She has been saved for more than 20 years and actively involved in ministry for more than 15 years.  She is gifted in interpretative dance and helps choreograph many of the dance scenes in our annual Easter Drama along with providing sign language for several songs.  She holds a degree in Early Childhood Education and is a stay at home mom, an independent consultant for thirty one, and also provides child care.  She has been married to our lead pastor since 2005 and they have one daughter, Zoe Noelle.

Interesting facts – Alicia enjoys reading and her favorite author is Max Lucado.  Her favorite movie of all time is Father of the Bride.  She loves vacationing at the beach or anywhere on a cruise ship.

Minister of Music – Michael Cline

Michael has been a member of the Church of God since he was eight years old, formerly of Brenton Church of God.  While at Brenton he learned to play his first instrument, the guitar, and by the age of thirteen was an active member of his sanctuary praise team, youth ministry, and choir.  In 2007 he was married to his high school sweet heart, Maryann Cline, and in 2014 was blessed with his first child, Amelia Anna-Jean Cline.  After moving to Virginia in 2007 and becoming a member of Fairlawn Church of God, Michael has been a part of the Music, Youth, Men’s, and Celebrate Recovery Ministries; as well as active in the annual Easter Drama at the Church.  Michael attended Radford University where he received a BA in Music Education and learned to read and play music for voice, piano, and guitar.  He became our Minister of Music in 2014.

Interesting Facts - Michael enjoys a very wide range of music.  He was raised on Southern Gospel, but also enjoys Contemporary Christian Music, Blue Grass, Rock, Jazz, Blues, and Classical.  His favorite past times, apart from spending time with family, are playing music, and reading a book while enjoying coffee. 

Secretary/Treasurer – Jackie Payne

Jackie has been a member of the Fairlawn Church of God for over 25 years and has been employed as the Secretary/Treasurer for over 6 years.    Jackie and her husband of 44 years, Darrell, felt called to the children’s ministry early on where they created a traveling ministry called, “Captain D and the Heavenly Creations”  and later served as Children’s Church Pastors here at Fairlawn for over 8 years.   She is still the co-director for our annual Easter Drama, “The Glory of His Resurrection”.   Her vision for this ministry has driven it for more than 20 years and has seen hundreds of lives changed and transformed.  Jackie and her husband have 2 beautiful daughters and 6 wonderful grandchildren.

Interesting Facts – Jackie lives on Claytor Lake where she enjoys spending time on the water with her family and friends.  She also enjoys family trips together whether cruising or traveling across country.

Sunday School Superintendent - Jack Shelor

Jack has been a member of the Fairlawn Church of God for more than 18 years.  He was born and raised in Radford where he is currently living with his wonderful wife of 36 years, Joni.   They are blessed with 3 children and 6 grandchildren.  While attending Fairlawn, Jack has been active in the Men’s Ministry, the annual Easter Drama, and has served on the Church Council as an Elder for many years. 

Interesting Facts -  Jack own his own machine shop in Radford and enjoys fishing.  He is also an avid golfer and marathon runner.

Men’s Ministry President - Frank Moses

Frank was born and raised in Christianburg where he has attended the Church of God most of his life.  He has been married to his wonderful wife, Connie, for over 34 years and they are blessed with 2 children and 5 grandchildren.  Frank is a skilled musician playing acoustic, bass and steel guitar and was a member of several gospel bands over the years.  He was an avid motorcyclist where he served as President for the local chapter of the New River Valley, “Christian Motorcyclist Association”.   While attending the Fairlawn Church of God he started serving as President of the Men’s’ Fellowship, Youth Leader for the teen boys at Celebrate Recovery “The Landing”, became active in the annual Easter Drama, and a member of the Sanctuary Choir. 

Interesting Facts - Frank enjoys hunting and fishing; but mostly spending time with his wife and family. 

Senior Adult's Ministry Directors – Don and Mary Kate Kidd

Mary Kate is a charter member of the Fairlawn Church of God since 1972. She has been saved for more than 50 years and has been actively involved in ministry for more than 45 years.   She graduated as a Medical Technologist from the Pulaski Hospital School of Medical Technology.   She is presently the Senior Adult’s Ministry Director assisted by her husband Don and they have been blessed with 2 children and 4 beautiful grandchildren.

Interesting Facts –Mary Kate enjoys collecting crystal, china and buttons.  Most of all, she enjoys family time and traveling with her husband Don.

Celebrate Recovery Director - Rev. Verna DiMaio

Verna has been an Ordained Minister for more than 25 years and has been saved for more than 40 years.  She has also been an active Bible teacher for most of that time and has been attending the Fairlawn Church of God since 2006. She received her BA in counseling from Old Dominion University and is using that knowledge and expertise in leading her current ministry. She has been married for nearly 50 years to Joseph DiMaio and they have been blessed with 5 wonderful children and 5 beautiful grandchildren.

Interesting Facts - Verna’s favorite past time is reading and her favorite Scriptures are Gal 5:1 and Psalms 18:30. Her favorite color is fuchsia and she loves to eat at Golden Corral.
